An original hybrid from TCT Nursery in Thailand. True to its name, it’s completely covered in bumpy, fluffy protrusions, making the entire leaf look just like a crispy, freshly fried tempura, with colors that range from orange to the classic yellow of tempura batter ((it’s so spot-on visually that it barely needs explanation)). Under stronger stress, the colors turn vibrant red; if the plant is happy and healthy, you’ll see a bright green instead. This TCT hybrid first spread in Japan around 2023, and as of 2026, it remains the go-to representative and a staple in any collection! Fortunately, there are lots available, so among TCT-named hybrids, this one is especially easy to get your hands on.
