A striking and robust aloe, this species boasts glossy, upright, sword-like leaves adorned with prominent white "fangs." Native to regions ranging from South Africa to Mozambique, in its homeland it can grow into an impressive tree aloe over 18 meters tall. Its distinctive form features a thick, solitary trunk from which slender branches radiate. The scientific name honors 19th-century British scientist Mary Elizabeth Barber. Some references classify it under the genus Aloidendron.
