A reptilian-type Crassula covered in a hard, rugged white epidermis. Its monster-like appearance is reminiscent of the creatures from "Kaiju No. 8." The leaves of Yumedono naturally grow to about twice the length shown in the photo, so I'm watching to see how this specimen develops from here. This white body helps camouflage it among the chunky white quartz rocks of its desert habitat and reflects the searing sun, allowing it to thrive even as it sends up flower stalks in summer heat exceeding 36°C. Although it comes from an area with rainy winters, in horticulture it's generally treated as a spring-autumn grower (the fact that it bloomed in the height of summer for me may be due to my own unusual growing conditions or timing). It closely resembles the famous, sought-after Crassula deceptor C. deceptor , but from a scientific standpoint, they are considered to be the same species—not just close relatives.
