Sitting in grand style like a turtle's shell, the caudex of the @[] (3410) puts out slender stems each year, unfurling a bounty of heart-shaped leaves—the perfect mix of toughness and cuteness, and a true favorite among plant lovers. There are two main types of @@[] (3410): those from Africa and those from Mexico, with their growth seasons completely opposite. This one is the "African Turtle Back Yam," which grows during the winter. Its annual cycle starts with sprouting in autumn, reaches full bloom in winter, before shedding leaves just before the rainy season, and then leaving behind just the shell-like caudex for the summer. Being a vine that thrives under the shade of large trees, it’s relatively shade-tolerant. If you want to grow a larger tuber, the trick is to provide plenty of water and fertilizer during its active growth period.
