It's a popular species, renowned for the striking contrast between its chubby, rugged caudex and its delicate blooms, and you could spot it even before the current caudex plant boom (nowadays, it's somewhat overshadowed by the popularity of Pachypodium species...). The longstanding popularity of this species is supported by the wide range of cultivars that have been bred—while the typical form has five pink-margined petals, you can also find varieties with deep purple hues or impressive double blooms. Since these unusual forms are still rare on the market, make sure you don't miss out—add them to your wish list and keep an eye out. Scientifically speaking, Arabicum @ is considered the same species as this plant. Obesum generally tends to have a more compact and neat silhouette, but as for clear morphological differences... that's still under study.
