Better known by its Japanese name "Kirin Kaku," this classic columnar Euphorbia is famous for its exceptional hardiness and fast growth. Alongside E. lactea , it's commonly used as a rootstock for grafting—clear proof of its resilience! Maybe because of this, Kirin Kaku is often confused with Euphorbia lactea. However, it's actually pretty easy to tell them apart: Kirin Kaku has an almost round, column-like shape, whereas Euphorbia lactea looks more like four thin, flat plates joined together (the cross-section forms a star or cross shape). Sometimes you'll come across a Euphorbia with a "neriifolia" label covered in big white dots, but this is actually described under E. royleana f.inermis .

@TazzyStar “In rural Bengal, kajol or surma is made from the "Monosha" plant, a type of succulent spurge (Euphorbia neriifolia). The leaf of Monosha is covered with oil and is kept above a burning diya (mud lamp). Within minutes the leaf is covered with creamy soft black soot.” (Wikipedia)
