Mirabilis, whose distinguished name means "worthy of admiration," is a brave little plant with very sharp-tipped leaves adorned with spines. Its windowed leaves display striking vertical stripes, and compared to other species, they're more compact and densely packed. This vigorous variety has leaves that form triangular "windows" at their tips, much like the retusa type. It grows to a maximum size of about 15 cm.

It's a slow grower. According to Llifle, in nature it often grows individually, sometimes producing offsets after several years. But the plant in the photo is a robust cluster—truly impressive!
There are several variations, such as Badia Haworthia mirabilis var. badia.
It's native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, sharing its home region with H. magnifica and H. maraisii .
Mirabilis likes water more than many succulents, but only water once the soil has dried out. In winter, it goes dormant, so water is rarely needed. With effort, it can handle cold down to -5℃, but keeping it above 5℃ is safest. Frost protection is essential. In the wild, this species often grows buried in the soil. Provide bright, indirect light and avoid extreme temperature changes.
