Among the retusa-type Haworthias, which spread triangular windows at the tips of their leaves, what makes Haworthia pygmaea especially charming is its frosted, textured window, reminiscent of frosted glass. It almost looks as if it's dusted with fluffy frost. Depending on the variety, beauty is judged by the way this 'frost' appears, its color, and the appearance of thick white stripes on the windows. The name 'pygmaea' comes from the meaning 'small.'

Among the retusa-type Haworthias, which feature triangular windows at their leaf tips, Haworthia pygmaea is notable for its frosted, textured windows that are its main charm point.
Although it looks like it's covered in soft, fluffy frost, the surface is actually quite hard and rough to the touch. Just like actual frosted glass, I believe this helps to soften the light entering the plant. However, from a classification perspective, this rough texture isn’t considered pygmaea’s defining feature (as it may or may not be present); instead, the truly distinctive traits are that the window is flat and the leaf tips are rounded.
The leaves grow upright, forming a solid rosette about 10cm across. The name 'pygmaea' suggests 'small size', but in fact, it's about the same size as most other Haworthias.
While *Haworthia pygmaea* does like water a bit more than some other succulents, you should still only water after the soil has dried out. During winter dormancy, it barely needs any water at all. It can tolerate cold, down to -5°C if you’re careful, but it’s safest to keep it at 5°C or warmer. Protect it from frost. In the wild, it's a species that often grows buried in soil. Place it somewhere out of direct sunlight, and avoid drastic temperature fluctuations.
