This is the red-flowered form of M. vetula ssp.gracilis . The flowers are actually more of a bright pinkish-purple than pure red, but compared to the regular cream-colored type, they're definitely much redder. Its origins are unclear. There are other red-flowered Mammillaria gracilis varieties—like the horticultural variety 'Antje' and the subspecies pulchella—but it's not certain if they're the same as this one.
