Instead of spines, this unique Agave is covered in white threads and striking white markings on the leaf tips, making it appear to shine brilliantly white from a distance. It’s whiter than many variegated varieties, yet it’s not actually variegated. This is a compact species, reaching a maximum diameter of about 20 cm. Although its name suggests it is a miniature version of A. filifera , Hime Midareyuki is actually its own distinct species. Beyond just size, you’ll notice clear differences: the amount and curl of the threads (Hime’s threads are denser and straighter), the leaves are narrower and thicker, and the white markings at the leaf tips are more prominent and set against a deeper green in Hime. Agave A. polianthiflora also looks quite similar. The scientific name means "small flower," and with a stature of about 1 m, it’s exceptionally small for an Agave. By the way, there is also a Hesperaloe H. parviflora with the same species name, "parviflora."
