When people think of Pachypodium, they might imagine "a hefty body with thin pipes," but surprisingly, such forms are actually quite rare—almost exclusively represented by the ever-popular gracilius. Among them, here’s a Pachypodium with a gracilius-like shape that truly embodies the hallmark look of the genus. Compared to gracilius, it features shorter branches and leaves, resulting in an even more compact and rounded silhouette. Another major difference is its body, which tends to take on a reddish hue unlike gracilius. The name "cactipes" means "cactus-like foot," likely referencing its youthful habit of producing several spines from a single spot, and as it matures, it develops into a real "spine king," cloaked in countless long, sharp spines.
