Tillandsia purpurea, native to Peru, is a stem-forming type. It produces white leaves covered in trichomes that grow to about 10–20 cm, and as its name suggests, it produces purple flowers. In its natural habitat—wide-open highlands or deserts without any shade—it loves to soak up the sun. While it prefers cooler environments over extreme heat, you should keep summer temperatures below 32°C and winter around 5°C (it can tolerate down to 0°C for a few hours). As a watering guideline, aim for about twice a week in summer and once a week in winter.

The image of tillandsias as "tropical forest plants" is turned on its head by Tillandsia purpurea, which lives in arid, open deserts. Despite this, care is surprisingly simple and straightforward. The main thing to remember is that this species absolutely loves sunlight.
