One of the smallest species of Tillandsia. Its tiny, thumb-sized silver rosette stands upright with elegant, rose-pink flower spikes. The trichomes are denser than those of T. kautskyi , and unlike T. minutiflora , it does not form clusters—instead, it quietly exists as a single plant, creating a beautiful and serene appearance. The name honors the 19th-century German botanist Sprengel, and despite being formally described in 1894, it turns out this plant has a surprisingly long history with humans. In its native habitat—moist rock faces and tree trunks of southeastern Brazil—it grows nestled closely to the surface. It's said that it produces very few offsets in the wild and that seedlings grow quite slowly, making this species rare and seldom seen in cultivation.
