PUKUBOOK Succulent picture book

2024.11.29 22 Trendworthy Succulents to Watch in Winter 2024: A Track Record of Rare Finds and Plant Swaps

Thank you so much to everyone who visited our event on November 23rd! Today’s article is a laid-back look at one of PUKUBOOK's routines: our ongoing project of "registering new varieties and editing articles".

PUKUBOOK doesn't have the usual "New Arrivals!" section you see on most sites, so whether you're browsing, searching, or just exploring the homepage, it can all feel a bit... unchanging (lol). Admittedly, that's probably something we should improve, but just for today, we're going to share a "new arrivals" roundup the old-fashioned way—by hand!

Honestly, this "column" section was always meant for these kinds of posts... but, well, here we are.

Variegated Beauties

Liberia Variegated Above all else, "Liberia Variegated" stands out for its absolutely exquisite beauty. Now that pricing has finally come down into a range we can feature here on PUKUBOOK, it’s starting to feel more accessible. Still, since mass propagation remains a challenge, it will take a while before this plant becomes truly affordable.
Lake Baikal Variegated With glossy, rounded leaves—pointed right at the tips—this plant is strikingly divided into two bold colors, creating a unique variegated, random stripe effect.
Moon Fairy Variegated A fresh face with slender, spoon-shaped leaves that taper into points, each edged by radiant, snowy white variegation. Our own plant is so big that we’re still trying to figure out its personality!
Monroe Variegated Not a brand-new variety per se, but we’re now offering it as a special plant release from PUKUBOOK SUCCULENTS at a much friendlier price.

Echeverias, Sedums & Friends

Kohaku Once known as the “phantom Echeveria,” we finally managed to pin down what this variety looks like! Whether it's the same as the "Kohaku" commonly traded in Japan is still unclear—probably not, we think. Curious to see how its appearance might evolve next.
Blueberry Discovered while comparing lookalikes of 'Dark Opal,' and this one resembles it so closely that we're convinced they could be the same species!
Moon Curtain Among all the agavoides varieties with "Moon" in their names, this is a rare new face about which we’ve found almost no information.
Bakarel The leaf shapes of this succulent are... what even is this? Each leaf twists upward with bumpy warts—wait, aren’t warts usually on the *top* of leaves? We couldn’t find a single piece of info online—definitely a cutting-edge new variety.
Amistar With the unmistakable texture of the purpusorum lineage (Echeveria purpusorum, or Yamato Nishiki), this variety has larger, rounder, and flatter leaves. Even though it's related, it differs from typical dark-colored purpusorum types—with its thick white powder giving a soft matte blue-gray finish that makes it stylish and utterly adorable.
Lucky Bubble A Sedum-Echeveria hybrid producing clusters of small, chunky rosettes.
Snowy Night Contrary to its delicate-sounding name, this hybrid's broad, plump leaves are vibrant and bold—bright green to yellow inside, rimmed in deep red on the outer edges.
Kuroganehime A "Mixveria" variety. Not every single type had been listed before, so here’s a newly registered one for the collection.
Nostalgic Sepia Ditto above!
Tolimanensis Dark Red Less a new variety, more a classic example of a plant being circulated under a new name—whether by accident or on purpose. Happens all the time!

Agave

Blue Wave This plant's blue-white glowing leaves are edged with neon-orange highlights—a breathtaking look! However, its origins are a complete mystery with almost no info online. We can’t say exactly what it really is, but it’s so cool and beautiful we truly hope it becomes more widely grown.
Titanota 'Rose' A "named" titanota featuring broader, rounded leaves lined with long, undulating teeth—a real stand-out.
Blue Glow Pixie A compact version of the classic 'Blue Glow' Agave.
Bulldozer The slightly monstrous, wavy teeth on young plants reportedly get even larger as they grow—sometimes appearing even on the reverse side! A definitely promising grower.

Others

Dudleya acuminata 'Thumb' While the rare Dudleya ‘acuminata’ typically sports sharp, pointed leaves, this “Thumb” variation is all plump and round. That’s how it’s sold, anyway, but we actually suspect it might be a Pachyphytum-type Dudleya!
Lithops C393A 'Ember' A "C-numbered" color variant of Lithops bromfieldii var. glaudinae known as 'Ember'. The explanation veers off into a discussion of the name itself (lol).
Lithops lesliei 'Jambourree' A vivid red selection from the 'Jakkals' variety group.
Lithops aucampiae var. euniceae C48 A C-number-tagged 'Koyo-gyoku' sporting reticulated patterns in shades from brown-red to orange.
