A carefully selected specimen of the so-called A. titanota . It features short, bluish-white leaves with large white spines. Grown in Taiwan. The central spine is relatively small, while the secondary spines are quite large and point downward, forming "reverse spines"—a trait it shares with cultivars like "Tarantula" and "Demon Dragon A. 'Demon Dragon' ." At first, I thought, "Ah, maybe it's named Ashura because of the Tarantula-like reverse spines connection," but that's probably just my mind being influenced by my image of Ashuraman from Kinnikuman, and in reality, there's likely no relation at all. Ashura, like Ashuraman, is a Buddhist deity with three faces and six arms, symbolizing a heart consumed by constant anger and strife. More accurately, it might be called "Asura."
