A familiar horticultural cultivar of Agave titanota A. titanota . While it's been present in Japan for a long time, the recent boom in agaves has been fueled by clones coming from Taiwan and China. In contrast, the ones historically found in Japan are called "traditional Hakugai A. titanota 'Hakugei' traditional " to differentiate them. Under strong light and compact growing conditions, both forms feature short, rounded blue-gray leaves and undulating small spines along narrow, white margins. Among named types, their leaves tend to spread outward in a rosette more so than most others. Note: "Fukken Hakugai (=Koyuu Shin Hakugai) A. titanota 'Fukken Hakugei' " is a separate line. Additionally, there are often seedlings displaying somewhat Hakugai-like traits that are also named with variations of "___ Hakugai," so there appear to be quite a few forms out there.
