Aloe with a blue background scattered with countless white dots, showing off a captivating and unique autumn coloration—when under stress, only the base color transforms into striking shades of red or orange. In South Africa’s Karoo region, although it blends into rocks and dry grass, it’s apparently spotted quite often in its native habitat. Yet in Japan, it’s an exceptionally rare find. Hard to believe, considering how dramatic its coloration and beautiful patterns are! Among plant enthusiasts, its popularity seems to be quietly rising, and it might just spark a brand new boom. The scientific name microstigma means “very small spots,” which truly highlights these white flecks scattered all over the leaves. If you give it plenty of sun or expose it to cold, its base color turns reddish brown to orange, but officially, it’s described as “blue-green”—so those vibrant red specimens in commercial photos are probably the result of special cultivation conditions.
