A snow-white body, as pure as freshly fallen snow. This impressive, large single-rosette species can reach up to 50cm across, and is the iconic representative that shapes the image of all Dudleyas. It’s native to Baja California in Mexico. Adapted to a climate with wet winters and dry summers, it stays dormant and doesn’t absorb water during summer, so it survives the season by avoiding full sun. From late winter to spring, it blooms with clusters of yellow flowers.

A large Dudleya hailing from Baja California, Mexico. Its single rosette can grow up to 50cm in diameter, covered in a thick, snow-white wax that gives it an almost mesmerizing beauty—truly the poster child for the Dudleya genus. In English, it’s often called “Live Forever,” and there are stories that it can live for a hundred years.
Like Dudleya pulverulenta D. pulverulenta , this plant is prized for its thick, stunning white wax. That’s the goal, but most Brittonii you’ll see usually have a blue-grey gradient. If you want to achieve the brilliant white appearance shown in guide photos, avoid watering from above and keep it out of strong winds—both can damage the delicate wax. The plant in the reference photos is cared for long-term indoors using LED lighting, a gentle breeze from a circulator, and bottom watering. Ideally, you want enough powdery wax to even collect between the leaves.
Choose a spot with plenty of sunlight and very good airflow. This species is especially vulnerable when crowded, so prioritize ventilation. If it doesn’t get enough sun, the leaves will weaken and become a target for pests and disease.
It’s highly drought-tolerant, so water thoroughly only when the soil is dry. In summer, it doesn’t absorb water at all—watering during this period leads straight to root rot.
Quite a few enthusiasts actually leave the old, dried lower leaves on the plant. Preferences and opinions vary here: some believe you should remove them because they can shelter pests. It’s really up to you.
