A compact Mammillaria that grows densely packed, long, yellow, hook-shaped spines. It naturally inhabits the highlands of Mexico. According to Llifle, it is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and can rot easily, so it's tricky to keep on its own roots (but much easier when grafted). Kikujidou takes its name from a Chinese immortal—a boy said to have gained eternal youth by drinking dew from chrysanthemums.
