As its name suggests, this variant has longer spines than Tephrocactus articulatus @. However, the cultivar @ of this species, in contrast, doesn't have any spines at all. The spines are reddish-brown, while the flowers range from yellowish white to pink. The key difference from the main species @ seems to lie in the "slenderness of the body." There are spines present, but in English-speaking countries, people don't really mention them—instead, it's called the "pine cone cactus."

Tephrocactus articulatus var. diadematus is a nearly spineless form with no spines and without (or with very few) glochids on the new growth. These usually fall off as it ages. The segments usually grow one or two new segments each year from the stem tips. https://t.co/2B7NXtKJjo
