A standout Aeonium hybrid, with slender leaves forming a round, reddish rosette that gleams with a white center. Bred in California in 2007 by Renee O'Connell of the huge Altman Plants nursery (PP21407). This beautiful plant features dawn variegation inherited from 'Velour' @(270) as the father, and tricolor hues—including a lemon yellow not seen in 'Velour.' The name "Mardi Gras" comes from French meaning "Fat Tuesday," referring to the day before Carnival's finale. In Korea, the Marido Variegated A. 'Marid Variegated' is said to be the same plant.

A striking Aeonium hybrid features a round, reddish rosette with a luminous white center.
Its origins are clear (PP21407): bred in 2007 by Renee O'Connell at California's massive Altman Plants nursery. The father is 'Velour' A. 'Velour' , while the mother is an unreleased Aeonium hybrid known as Altman's #13.
The dawn variegation seems to come from the father, 'Velour,' but this hybrid brings a beautiful tricolor effect—including a lemon yellow absent in 'Velour.' When you think tricolor, you might think of A. 'Tricolor' , but Mardi Gras displays a different combination of three colors and tends to form more compact clusters.
"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," the day before the grand finale of Carnival. The festival of the same name held in New Orleans is especially famous.
In Korea, the Marido Variegated A. 'Marid Variegated' is believed to be the same as this cultivar.
I bought an Aeonium 'Mardi Gras' yesterday too because I finally saw one for sale at normal plant prices. It's 2 plants now. #aeonium #succulents #HouseplantHour https://t.co/BGsJBIN69b
@BearDublin Never bought through Amazon, but I did order a Mardi Gras Aeonium directly from a plant store during lockdown. I’ll die happy.
