A species of Agave native to the mountainous regions of the northwestern Mexican states of Chihuahua, Sonora, and Sinaloa. Though its rosettes are modest in size, this agave stands out with its fierce, striking look, characterized by reddish-brown spines of varying lengths. Its overall vibe is reminiscent of Guadalajarana A. guadalajarana , but this one boasts larger teeth and broader leaves, giving it an even bolder, more rugged appearance. Perhaps it's considered a connoisseur's pick in Japan's agave scene—or maybe I've just missed the buzz—but after circulating quietly since the mid-2010s, it's suddenly taken the spotlight in 2025. The increased availability of variegated cultivars through mericlone propagation may be part of the reason. For reference, its scientific name comes from the Latin words "bovis" (cow) and "cornutus" (horned), which is why it's also known as the "Cow's Horn Agave."
