With its 1–2 cm star-shaped leaves stacked vertically to form miniature cityscapes, this Crassula is one of the most popular representatives of the genus. It’s highly drought-tolerant—able to go without water for 1–2 months or even survive being cut and left out for quite a while without withering. As long as you don't overwater, it's a hardy and easy plant to care for. However, if it doesn’t get enough sunlight, it can grow lanky, and if it’s too dry, the leaves become thin, so there are a few tricks if you want to keep it looking its best. The Japanese name “Jūjisei” (meaning Cross Star) likely comes from the ✦ shape of its leaves. The variety called “Southern Cross” (Nanjūjisei) features a variegated pattern that makes the leaf markings look like ➕.
