As one of the so-called "Star Series" that closely resembles Crassula perforata C. perforata , this is a variation of Crassula rupestris C. rupestris . It's very similar to Crassula rupestris 'Aiboshi' C. rupestris 'Aiboshi' , but is said to stand out for its pale, whitish appearance throughout the year, with little color change. There isn't any clear documentation about either its name or origin, so the story is speculative, but the idea is that its whitish look led to the name "Hakusei" (meaning "white star" in Japanese). Read with a different pronunciation, this became "博星" (also pronounced "Hakusei"), and with another alternate reading, it eventually became known as "Hiroboshi."
