表面にみっしりと星を描き、ザラザラして見えるガステリア。互生がトレードマークのガステリアの中では珍しく、成長するとロゼットを形成します。スラリとシャープなものからゴツゴツとしたものまでいろんな写真が見つかりますがバリエーションなのか育て方なのか……。和名では春鴬囀（しゅんおうてん）で春に鳴くウグイス、英語での愛称は Knoppies gasteria （アフリカの言葉で「ボタン」の意味）。南アフリカ東部のご出身で G. croucheri に近い種です。
