Covered densely with star-like markings that give its surface a rough appearance, this Gasteria is quite eye-catching. Unlike most Gasteria, which are known for their alternating leaves, this one is unusual in that it forms a rosette as it matures. You can find photos of this plant looking both slender and sharp or rugged and chunky—perhaps due to variation or cultivation style… In Japanese, it's known as "Shunouten" ((meaning "bush warbler's call in spring")), and in English, it's affectionately called Knoppies gasteria ((where "Knoppies" means "buttons" in an African language)). Native to eastern South Africa, it is closely related to G. croucheri .
