This plant is a so-called "hard-leaved Haworthia," recognized for its shiny, deep dark-colored leaves that spread out in a rosette pattern and are dramatically indented on the inner surface. Variations include the striking striata, which is streaked all over with white stripes, and glaucophylla, with a smooth, solid look due to the absence of spots. The name limifolia means "leaf like a file" (probably because the crosswise ripples give it a folded appearance).

Like other Haworthia, this species does well in half-shade or shade. That said, it's not that they dislike sunlight, so try to provide as much light as possible. As a guideline, if the leaves begin to turn brownish, they're getting too much sun. The ideal is right before any color change occurs. Indoors, a windowsill with a few hours of sunlight each day is perfect.
As a winter grower, this plant goes dormant in summer. It stores plenty of water in its thick roots, but if it stays completely dry for a long period, it will recover slowly in autumn. During the summer, move it to shade and keep the potting mix just barely moist at the bottom. In the active growing periods of fall and spring, let the soil surface dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly.
