Its unusually shaped, lumpy masses seem to bubble up from the surface, forming a bizarre spectacle. This is a monstrous form of Takasago (Bocasana) M. bocasana , known as 'Fred,' and it's a rare find thanks to its limited production. Even among Freds, each plant looks completely different—some, like the one in the photo, develop into a cluster of tiny bumps that together look more like a bunch of grapes or even caviar than any typical cactus, or honestly, any plant at all. The plant's unique visual appeal is truly one of a kind. By the way, the name Fred comes from the person who first discovered and stabilized this cultivar.
