Most people would never believe Lithops are plants. Then again, Lithops are not trying to look like plants. Their life goal is to become pebbles. Buried almost entirely underground, they disguise themselves as surrounding stones, even matching local rock colors with remarkable precision. Then, out of nowhere, a flower bursts from the middle. As if that were not enough, they shed their old bodies and emerge anew each year. Name another pebble that blooms and molts.
