The edge is marked with thin, wide, whitish leaves with jagged margins—features inherited from colorata A. colorata . But the most distinctive trait, and the inspiration for the name 'Wave', is that as the plant grows, the leaves arch back and develop dramatic, rippling waves. This cultivar was bred in California by Rancho Tissue Technology, as a hybrid between colorata A. colorata (the wild form of 'Hakugakuden') and celsii Agave celsii Nova. Recently, some Blue Wave plants on the market look very similar to Dragon Toes A. seemanniana ssp.pygmaea 'Dragon Toes' —hopefully they're not being confused for each other…?
