This distinctive aloe hybrid features the bumpy surface inherited from rauhii, which appears in striking, pure white contrast. Its look is reminiscent of Super Snowflake and A. 'Blizzard' . Created by hybrid master Dick Wright, it is a cross between Aloe rauhii and Aloe descognsii. Many hybrids, including works by Kelly Griffin, use this cross as a foundation. The name "Doran Black" actually comes from the horticulturist Doran Black himself, so “Black” doesn't refer to the color. While you’ll rarely see this plant for sale in Japan, the truth is that A. rauhii 'Drian Black' comes from a kind of "telephone game" corruption of “Doran Black” (photo shows A. rauhii 'Drian Black' ).
