A horticultural cultivar of A. asterias where the spots have grown large and fluffy, giving the plant an almost pure white appearance from a distance. This variety was bred and released in Japan in 1983. It sparked a boom in Astrophytum asterias cultivars, leading to the popularity of Miracle Kabuto, Super Miracle Kabuto, and many others. Super tends to have more variation in the size and density of its dots, resulting in a wide range of patterns. However, since all of these are usually grown from seed and can't self-pollinate, each plant ends up looking quite different.

It remains highly sought-after and commands high prices both in Japan and overseas. Because Astrophytum asterias is generally propagated from seed, true clones of 'Superkabuto' are almost nonexistent. Instead, this has led to a whole spectrum of variants—Miracle Kabuto, Super Miracle, Zebra, Arrow, Royal, and more—all competing in beauty.
The birth of Superkabuto dates back to Japan in 1983. It all began when breeder Masaomi Takeo discovered a discolored, barely surviving Astrophytum asterias at a U.S. nursery in 1981. He managed to bring it back to health, and together with his friend Tsutomu Sato, produced a variety of seeds—eventually resulting in the creation of 'Superkabuto.'
