This adorable cactus features a glossy deep green body with charming pink spines. Its Japanese name is "Aobanaebi" (Blue-Flowered Shrimp), and its scientific name in Latin even means "green flower." True to its name, it blooms with elegant light green flowers. Native to higher-altitude regions from the southern United States to Mexico, it is quite cold-hardy and can overwinter outdoors. However, since it's sensitive to humidity, be careful not to overwater.

Echinocereus viridiflorus DJF713.1 (Larimer County, Colorado) looking very green and smelling lemony. #echinocereus #cactus https://t.co/KJ1DOxrxzQ
@an_earthiest Escobaria missouriensis (the orange cactus, native to the western tallgrass westward), Echinocereus viridiflorus (native from the Black Hills to parts of NM and TX), and Pediomelum esculentum (our native prairie turnip). The grass is a mix of Bouteloua gracilis and B. hirsuta.
I think this was the first cactus flower of the year in my greenhouse - Echinocereus viridiflorus v. corellii. A few Aylostera are having a go but it's not sunny enough for them to open properly. #echinocereus #cactus https://t.co/eCZzeSUu50
