The "octopus-type" euphorbia, Euphorbia decidua, sends up slender branches from its smooth, round, manju-like caudex. Even at maturity, the caudex stays compact, usually around 10–15 cm in diameter. This rare species calls Angola, Zimbabwe, and Zambia home, and is specially protected in Zimbabwe due to its rarity. The name "decidua" means "deciduous," referring to its leaves, which fall off in winter.
