With round, coin-like leaves spaced along its stems, this plant stretches upward and produces adorable orange flowers from gourd-shaped buds at the tips. When young, its leaves are a light green, but as the plant ages, they thicken and turn a deep, rich purple. The stems can grow quite tall—sometimes several dozen centimeters—making for a striking presence. While it's likely that the plant sold as "Shijimi-chou" is actually Kalanchoe rotundifolia, there isn’t any definitive source connecting the two, so please keep that in mind. Some references identify "Shirahime no Mai" as K. marnieriana , but it also probably refers to this same rotundifolia.
