Among Pachypodium species, which usually bloom with yellow or white flowers, the variety "Baronii" is especially prized for its rare red blossoms. Its trunk and caudex are relatively slender rather than thick, and it typically grows upright as a single stem with very little branching, all while sporting impressive, stout spines. The trunk is reddish-brown in color. The leaves are sharply pointed and quite firm to the touch.
